A whale of a time using whale art

It goes unsaid that home owners who live in New England States, especially those who live near the ocean, showcase more whales in and on their homes than their land-locked sister state Vermont.

Below is a collection of photos I have taken during my travels around New England or that I have found online.

This board, that was washed ashore, was painted with a black whale. It was hanging over our front door and will be hung somewhere prominent in our next home.  When I took down the board to pack away, I found a written note on the back, by the artisan, explaining that the board was found and it stated I had just adopted a whale named Roxie.  I totally forgot it said that.

While driving through the cape in December, this home stopped me in my tracks. I loved the carved whale over the yellow front door.

While walking around Falmouth, I passed by this home on my way to the ocean. The whale weathervane set against the bright blue sky stood out and made such a statement on this Cape Cod home.

This is not my photo, but I did have the pleasure of seeing this hallway vignette in person while staying at the Gate House on Nantucket.  This area and the inn was designed by Annsley Interiors out of Boston, MA on Chestnut Hill.

Gray on gray - This whale adorns a fireplace mantel - unknown photo credit.

Photo - Styled by Stacy Kunstul for a New England Home magazine shoot. This whale carving takes center stage in a room of turquoise and white. Room created by architect Scott Hutton.

Owner of this photo unknown. the Pinterest link took me to a non-related marketing page.  Sneaky! If you know who created this space, I would love to know so that I can give proper credit.

This photo was found on House of Turquoise - This room is in one of the colorful Victorian homes seen in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard.  Designed and owned by Tracey Overbeck Stead and her husband, their 1869 home is the perfect place to hang whale art.

Designer, stylist, or photographer unknown on this room of navy blue and white.

This blue dresser with a whale painting was created by Shades of Blue Interiors  -

Loving this whale tail door knocker I found during my walk around Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.
