Simple winter decorating ideas using a few natural items.
The Christmas decorations have come down now what? How about adding a few natural elements to your home’s decor? In today’s YouTube video and blog post I’m sharing how I created three different winter decor items using twigs from the yard and flowers and bulbs from a local market.
I just love how the crisp white and pop of green complement the black and white plates I just put on our country hutch. This is a small highlight of my Grand Union Style.
After rinsing off the base of the hyacinths, I’m going to place them into a simple glass container filled with water.
Each year, for the past few years, I have made it a point to plant my paperwhites after Christmas so that I can enjoy them during our cold and sometimes dreary winters. Even though my allergies kick into high-gear with these, the simple beauty of them make it worth it.
This winter, I decided to plant the paperwhites with twigs from the yard and a few pine cones I had just taken off one of our Christmas wreaths (the wreath I made with faux fruit, shown in a past video https://youtu.be/WcdzIoO37hk )
The urns had the wreaths, pineapples, and apples removed and I simply tucked in twigs. In February I might even add a few red hearts or long heart picks. .
This is what started it all. I had been collecting twigs that were dropping left and right from our River Birch tree. My plans and hopes are to create a twig wreath for either our living room or the front door of the house. It will all depend on how long it takes me to actually make the wreath, or should I say, if I make the wreath.
