Wandering New England

“ With the New Englander, resident, expatriate, or descendant, the charm of New England does not have to be stated. It is chiefly quality rather than condition, and does not come easily within the limits of spoken or written words”. - George French. An except from a circa 1911 Boston Chamber of Commerce book.

New England is not a place I experience driving or walking in a straight line: I zig and I zag .

Over the years, I have wandered through its coastal villages, historic towns, quiet countryside roads, and harbor cities; sometimes with purpose, often simply because we had time. This page gathers those travels together: reflections from seasonal visits, glimpses of historic properties, notes from seaside walks, and moments captured while exploring the six New England states.

This is not a formal guidebook or a checklist of attractions. Rather, it is a companion for those who love New England, whether you are planning a visit, considering a move, tracing family roots, or simply dreaming from afar.

Below you’ll find towns I’ve visited, seasons I’ve walked through, and places that have stayed with me. I hope it feels less like an itinerary and more like traveling alongside someone who knows the region well enough to say, “You might enjoy this.”

By the Sea

The places I visit a lot, are along the New England coast: small villages, historic ports, and inns where the sea feels close enough to hear.

In Historic Towns

New England’s villages are layered with so many stories, from colonial doorways and old burying grounds to house museums and quiet town greens where history was made. These visits reflect the architecture, history, and character that continue to shape life here in New England.

Seasonal New England

New England looks beautiful in every season and each holiday. From autumn hillsides and Christmas door tours in historic towns to winter harbor walks and early spring gardens, my visits capture the region as it shifts gently through each seasons.

Inns & Quiet Escapes

Some places are remembered not for what we did, but for how they made us feel. These are inns and small escapes, where hospitality, history, and atmosphere come together.

Inspired by place

Travel has a way of influencing some of my home life. Architectural details, garden ideas, historic interiors, color palettes and decor, and small discoveries; these posts are from moments that stayed with me long after the visit ended.
